Well, earning from your hard work is, simply, hard work. No one knows this better than a new author online, or a director just starting out in the field of online and viral videos. This guide will show you how to make money, no matter what type of media you create. It’s set up in this format:

General Overview
The one thing that all new media creators need to know is that working online is often much harder than working in the real world, as people online usually fail to see depth in their work. Creativity is necessary, have no doubt, but it is a much different world online. Now, before you begin monetizing your content, you’ll need the following programs and tools:

Text

-For text content, you don’t need anything fancy.

Word

Paypal (or a mailing address, depending on the site you’re using)

Google Adsense account (depending on which site you’re writing for)

GOOD writing skills

Photos

-Photos require more material, as they usually need to be edited and captured with high tech equipment

Photoshop is a staple, but there are a bunch of free, similar programs for both Mac and Windows

A camera is (obviously) a must. Shoot in RAW, if you can. If not, take pictures in the highest quality possible.

A good eye

Videos

-One of the hardest mediums to make money from, if you become successful with videos you are likely to earn a lot

Some sort of video editing software (Imovie or Window’s Movie Maker both are fine, though Final Cut Pro is best)A webcam (vlogging) or a video camera (movies and skits)

A lot of creativity, time and patience

-Is never going to be a large source of revenue online unless you get a record deal, but it can earn you a goodish amount if you put time and effort into it

Now that you know what tools you need to earn online, it’s time to learn about the different styles, sites and ways of making money from whatever it is you are creating. One general rule of thumb though; No matter how little you are earning or how frustrating it is to work and work and not get paid what you think you deserve, don’t give it up, it will eventually pay off.

Text and Written Content

Text and written content is probably the most common form of monetized media online. It is a simple to create medium, and it is only time consuming when you have to research the subject you want to write about. The many sites that you could use to make money online include:

Triond (Pays via cheque or Paypal. Also has Adsense integration)
Bukisa (Pays via Paypal)
Hubpages (You make money from third party ads- Adsense, Kontera, Ebay and Amazon)
Associated Content (Pays via Paypal)
Snipsly (Adsense ads are placed next your content)
Article Income (50/50 Adsense Split)
Ehow (Pays via Paypal, only open to Americans)
Suite101 (Requires an application to get in, and payment details are classified)
Helium (Requires you to read and rate work before you can get paid)
Squidoo (Create a “lens”, which is basically a webpage, and earn money from ads on it)
Demand Studios (Like Suite101, requires an application to get in, but pays upfront for articles)
Your own blog (Adding advertisements to your content on your own blog can make you some cash, but it takes a lot of work to become really successful at it)

Now, no matter which site you sign up for, there are a few general guidelines to use when trying to get read. Health articles or writing about money usually does fairly well, and creative writing is usually the least paying type of content that you can create. However, if you have written a novel or a lot of poems, you can go into the world of self publishing and make your own book, which you can then sell from their website and earn royalties. Examples of sites like these:

While creative writing is not the highest earner online, it is the most popular and most accessible, so I thought I would include these sites for those of you who want to earn from writing fiction. If not, read on about how to write a proper article.
When writing a pice of content online is a lot different than writing a piece in real life, whether its for school or work. Articles (typically) are short, and take around 15 minutes to write. Pick a single point, and write a three paragraph piece about it. Make sure that you don’t repeat yourself, that you say something new in each line of text that you create, in order to keep the reader interested. Longer articles do not usually do as well as shorter ones, but if you can string together something that makes sense and would be in high demand, than by all means go ahead. It will take a longer time, but sometimes you’ll get lucky and earn quite a bit from your longer article. By longer, by the way, I mean around 800+ words, as a shorter article is typically around 350-500 words, but can be as low as 200-250.
Topics that usually do well include general health, money making websites, about writing articles, “how to” guides, and recipes. Humor is also successful sometimes, but it can end up being a mess as it is VERY hard to write funny articles. However, these are only rough rules, and in order to be really successful in your writing you need to experiment for yourself and see what works best for your writing style.
Photos
The most common form of getting paid for photos online is through stock photography, where you get paid by other people for the rights to use your photos for their own use. There are tons of different sites that you can use, including:

When taking stock photography, you need to keep a few things in mind. Shots of simple household objects, like money, fruits, or food items on a white background usually do pretty well, and shots of other simple items from a certain viewpoint, like a bench or down a slide, also do well. Take photos of people playing sports or doing an activity, but be careful, as most stock photo sites require a model release form to be submitted for legal reasons. You should be pretty busy if you want to be successful in this medium, as most photographers need to upload literally thousands of photos to earn a decent amount of cash, so keep at it.

A few good tips is to find a photographer that has found a lot of success using stock photography to make money, and ask for advice. In reality, there isn’t a lot of material floating around online that can really help a new photographer that has no idea how to use photoshop or make use of his camera’s special features, so maybe a photography course would help you get to know the art of photography and how to make your photos great. Also, search up other photographer’s work and look in onlineforums to see what works and what doesn’t, and in order to get some idea of what you need to do to become successful.

Videos

While these are plentiful online, it is a lot harder to make money from your film online than most think. There are a few sites that will pay you for your content, however, but they do require a lot of time and effort to be successful on. They are:

Youtube (You need a Google adsense account and be eligible for their partner program- very good source of revenue)
Revver (Pays via Paypal, requires a lot of original content to make serious money from)
Metacafe (Offers a CPM rate of $2/1000 views after you receive after 10,000 views)
Break (Offers large money incentives for original video content and short films)

In order for you to get the big bucks in video media, you need to use Break, Youtube, or Metacafe. Revver requires a large amount of videos to make a payment ($25), and it takes a long time for a video to get accepted, as each one has to be encoded and screened before uploaded to the site, a process that could take days. However, for videos of animals and slideshows that you put together, it’s a great place to earn a bit of extra cash. Just don’t expect it to be a cash cow for you, unless you have a viral video hit like diet coke and mentos. Instead, put your effort into the larger, higher paying sites. Youtube is very hard to get into, but if you get accepted into the partner program, you’re pretty much guaranteed to make a ton of cash, as your Google Adsense account is integrated into your youtube account, so ads are shown on your video, with get a very high click through rate, meaning that you’ll be getting paid a massive amount of cash very quickly. Break’s program requires the film to be submitted for review, and if eligible you get paid a lump sum of cash, which varies in size depending on the length and how good it is. Metacafe uses a CPM advertising technique, so all you have to do is get a few original videos with over ten thousand views each in two months, and you’ll be raking in 2 bucks per thousand views you get. While this doesn’t sound like a whole lot of cash, your video got ten thousand views, which is about twenty bucks. So if you make a thousand views a day on one video for a month, that’s 30,000 views, or 60 bucks. Now, if you have more than one video, you can see how this can stack up exponentially and potentially earn you a lot of cash fast. Either way, I would highly recommend all three sites, no matter what type of videos you make.

Now, when it comes to making a video, remember that humor is always number one online. While news and music also do very well, it takes a lot of talent, luck and promotion to make money off of self made music videos, and news is something that is hard for an individual to cover. However, you can offer your opinion on news stories, and exaggerate them to make them funny/outrageous. Metacafe is a good place to put up slideshows and funny animal videos, as they tend to be more popular on this site than anywhere else, for some reason. For break, you get a larger lump sum, but you need to make an original short film or animation and get it featured, so it takes a lot more work. No matter what you choose, it takes a lot of effort and time to become successful. Just be patient and keep at it, your hard work will pay off eventually.

Audio

Audio is so hard to make money from. There are hardly any sites online that will pay you for audio, and the ones that do don’t pay that much for your songs. There are two sites that will pay you for what you create though:

Newgrounds (Through their revenue share program, your Adsense ads on your content pages)
Triond (Accepts media files like mp3 or m4p files)

Neither one of these sites will pay you very much, and in order to make a living from this you will have to submit your music to larger sites, and hopefully be able to sell your music there. Napster, Itunes or Amazon are examples of sites like these, but they are very hard to get into. If music is your medium, you’ll have an easier time making money if you sell your music in real life or perform at local venues.
Promotion
Promoting your work is the most time consuming part of working online. Unless your content becomes viral, it is very unlikely that you’ll get large amounts of views without spreading your link online. Sites like the following promote your work:

Reddit
Digg
Stumbleupon
Xomba (Adsense revenue sharing)
Shetoldme (Adsense revenue sharing)
Mixx

All for free, and some of them actually pay you too. However, you should google sites that share links, called social bookmarking sites, and experiment with different ones to see which ones give you the most traffic. Usually, in order to make the most out of sites like these, you need to use them instead of just posting links. Comment on other people’s work and explore the site, being as active as possible. Also, feature other people’s work as well, because if any of your links get traffic there will be a spillover to your other work.
Lastly, in order to optimize that amount of viewers you get, place related content ads on your media so that traffic can move from one piece of your content to another, creating a large cycle in which you are constantly generating attention.

We all have times where we need to generate some quick and easy views in order to keep our blog, website or articles earning cash. Now, we can promote our old media to try and squeeze a few more cents out of them, or we can create a new media piece that will earn you almost immediate readers and cash.

Now, there are literally thousands of ideas and ways to create views, but they all generate them at a different rate, and all earn different amounts based on the related ads. However, I have put together a list of the top five earning topics that can be used to make money online with through media.

5) Money

There are hundreds of articles, videos and audio recordings on this subject online, and almost every single one makes a huge amount of views for its creator. Whether its on a certain program, technique or just a personal account on how you made money online, readers will flock to your content. However, since there is such a high quantity of these types of articles online, it is not a simple task to get thousands of readers. It is a gradual process, that requires a lot of promotion, linking and continual production to gain massive amounts of readers. However, a few pieces on this topic are a good way to earn a couple of hundred views in a few weeks, if you promote enough. They won’t give you top dollar for advertising, but will have a pretty solid rate for clicks and impressions.

4) Relationships and love

Advice or personal accounts of love are always popular. Teenagers and young adults will look for guidance on how to deal with their problems and how to prevent them in the future. This can be gleaned from personal accounts, but a guide or a list of a few tips will also do fairly well. Older adults may look for steamy stories of lust, as a source of entertainment. Writing romantic fiction isn’t as hard as it seems, as short chapters of a longer story do very well, and in general don’t always have to be well writing, though quality is something all online publishers strive for. Remember to lay out a quick piece on romance to gain views. While these generally don’t generate tons of income (with the exception of porn, but I won’t talk about that), they make up for it from the amount of views you can make from promoting successfully and keeping your media high quality. This is also a great way to generate a following of readers.3) Recipes and Food

The internet is a massive recipe sharing platform that many parents and cooks use to find new and exciting dishes. An old family recipe, or a simple one that you made up yourself, is something that people will want to see. If the recipe is a good one, and your media is popular online, you can expect to see some pretty heavy traffic rolling in fairly quickly. Ifrecipes are not something that you can share, or if you don’t want to share them, reviews on other people’s recipes, restaurants and food in general also does very well. Content that is food related generates medium revenue compared to other topics, and a fair amount of traffic as well. This type of content is popular because it doesn’t always require a lot of effort to publish a recipe or review online.

2) Health and Fitness

The health craze is in full swing, and many online publishers are taking advantage of this by creating and sharing their own tips, opinions and diets over the internet. Testing weight losstechniques, making your own, talking about health crazes and diets and even the old staple,exercise, are still popular subjects that generate a lot of high paying traffic fast. While there is some research or knowledge required to publish articles like this online, it is well worth the time and effort. Note that nutrition and health related food advice is different then recipes and food, as the traffic and income generated are different. One is health related, while the other is more hobby centered.

1) Gaming

The top paying and most viewed article topic that I have ever encountered while publishingonline is gaming. Games, whether they be massively popular games like Farmville to classics like Halo, they are certain to make a huge splash in your readers online. This type of content is mainly focused on teenagers and young adults, so be warned against spam comments. This is easy to create media that gives a high return rate, as not a lot of knowledge is needed to make a piece on a game. Instead, a google search and a few article reads can give you the information you need to make a quality piece. Now, that is not to say that you shouldn’t put a lot of effort into this type of content, as a large, informative and well written piece will give you exponentially more viewers then a quick, five minute, slapped together piece.

Now, these five topics have worked well for me, but I never confined myself to a niche. Instead, I created all kinds of content, from audio to written articles, and I was sure to keep trying new subjects to see which ones worked the best for me. Also, traffic that you generate from your media should not just be organic. Be sure to also use social bookmarking sites like Digg and Reddit, and to spread your content’s link around the internet for people to see. Keep an eye out in forums and related media for more tips, and be sure to constantly create more media. The more time spent creating and promoting, the greater the rewards.

Triond, after a long history of publishing user’s articles online and sharing revenue, has decided to go competitive. How so? Well, ever since Triond was first launched, other online publishing sites have come into being, and have tried to make themselves more attractive to users. One of those features, recently announced to be coming to Triond last month, was the integration of Google’s ad network, Adsense. Another new feature that has a lot more people interested is the beta launch of it’s very own referral program.

How does this benefit you, the user, and Triond, the company? Well, when you refer a user, you generate 10% of everything they publish. Forever. So if you refer ten people, and the all make a hundred bucks in three months, you’ve made 100 dollars to, in the same amount of time, for only spreading your link around the internet. Now, Triond can afford to pay you this because they’re still getting half of what you make and half of what the referrals make, and the referrals don’t lose any money.

So, how do you sign up for this program? You have to email referrals@triond,com (replace the comma with a dot) and ask for a position in the beta testing. If you’re approved, they’ll send you the link and you can begin promoting it in hopes of making a few extra dollars. However, there won’t be a whole lot of spots available, so if you don’t get accepted you should wait until it becomes public.

If it becomes public. Triond stated that they were releasing the program as a test to see how it actually worked in reality. If it doesn’t turn out to do as well as they had hoped, you probably won’t see the start of the program. However, the community at Triond is fairly well rounded, and should be able to generate enough new users and revenue from this program to make it well worth Triond’s time. Until then, however, we’ll just have to wait and see.

No matter what you write, you can find a place for it online. Depending on what you want to do with your writing, there a few different ways to start your career. For instance, someone looking for advanced critique should go to a site like Deviant Art, while someone looking to make money should choose Bukisa, Helium or Triond.

Now, when you say that you want to write online, you need to be specific. What do you want to write? Freelancing? Creative writing? Here are a few sites that should help you out

Creative Writing – Deviant Art, Helium (will accept them), Storymash, Wattpad

Freelancing – Helium (marketplace), WritersWeekly, Freelancewriting.com

Articles – Triond, Bukisa, Redgage

Now, you might be tempted to submit every piece of content you’ve ever written right away. I would advise against this, and instead suggest to submit your best content first in order to establish a reader base first. After you have a few friends and subscribers, then begin to submit your other work as well. If you do this, you’ll allow people to still see everything, but your best work first.

A lot of people write online, and many get paid for it. However, in order to be successful in writing online, you need to know the ins and outs.

First off, when I say writing online, I mean writing as in an article, a factual piece. While you can get paid for your creative writing online, it is very hard to find someone who will pay you a good sum for it, as most websites won’t pay you all that much for it. This may be discouraging to some of the budding creative writers out there, but with some hard work, you can definitely get paid. In order to be successful online, basically at least 90% of everything you write should be about something real. Think reporter more than author.Secondly, make sure that you write about something that applies to a vast amount of people. An article on personal health and weight loss would get more views than a write up of your local school. Unless your school has something that makes it unique, like raising a million dollars for charity or a shooting. Remember to write about something that you feel comfortable writing, something you can relate to or know about.

Thirdly, watch the news and current events going on in the world. While generally news articles don’t do that well when posted on a site that has other content as well, but if you post it fast enough, you are sure to at least earn a few dollars off of it.

Lastly, post your content to different sites. I personally use Triond, Redgage and Bukisa, with links leading to my content from Digg and Stumbleupon, as well as my blog. Set up a network of promoting tools and publishing sites so you can earn as much as possible, and maybe even send emails to your friends to tell them about your content.

You can get paid for taking surveys online. Most sites will pay you from a dollar to ten for every survey you complete, and will pay you once you earn a certain amount of money. You can get paid through check or Pay-pal, and can stand to earn a lot of money off of these sites. Personally, I used opinion outpost for a while a couple of years ago, and while I only earned around $300 in a year, I didn’t work nearly as hard on that site as I did on my own blog, or my Triond articles. The site is legitimate, and will pay you. Unfortunately, I never took a picture of my check to offer as proof, but it is a real site. They offer the results of the surveys you take to large companies and earn money for themselves that way. The more surveys you take the more you cane earn, and the surveys themselves take around 5 to 15 minutes.

Bukisa vs Triond

I have used both Bukisa and Triond for a while now, and I decided to write an article on the pros and cons of each one. While these are my personal opinions of the sites, I think that they can be applied to other people as well.

Bukisa

First off, it is an excellent site, that allows you to make money off of articles, much like Triond. However, the articles must be at least 250 words, more than Triond, and they take a lot longer to publish. Payout isn't quite as high as Triond either, with earnings being calculated off of an ever fluctuating index, which pays per 1000 views. While it is nice to know exactly how much you are going to get paid, the idea of niches isn't as important, as everyone gets paid the same. Another downside is that they only pay via Pay-Pal, which isn't always the preferred method of payment. Also, you must have a minimum of $10 to be payed, which is 20 times more than at Triond

Triond

With an easy to use interface, this site is great for beginners. You get paid by either check ($50) or Pay-Pal ($0.50) on the tenth of every month. Your articles are published onto Triond's large website network, and you get paid based on the amount of views your articles get. Depending on your subject, you can earn different amounts of money. An article on computers will earn more than an article on socks, for example.

Either way, they both can earn you extra income for your writing. Try out both now :).

Google Adsense Revenue Sharing Sites

Google Adsense the most common type of pay per click advertising, because its so easy to use. I personally find it one of the best advertisers out there, and recommend it highly. You get paid either through check or wire transfer once you make $100 USD of off clicks on your ads. Each click is valued differently, as certain ads pay more than others. Ads will match your site content, but your site must comply with the Adsense Terms Of Service.

Some sites offer to share revenue generate by Adsense ads that they attach to your content. Now, what makes this a good deal for you? Because, after all, they have to take some of the revenue, don't they? Well, most of these sites have a lot of traffic and a good search engine rank, so that you get more views, which equals more money. But is it really worth doing this?

After using these sites for quite some time, and then trying to post my content on my own blog and promoting it, I found that I made just a little bit more (three and a half dollars) using my blog. Really, in the whole scheme of things, that isn't much, but considering that I got very little traffic using either methods speaks for itself. If I had gotten a lot of views, my earnings could have stretched out into a lot more than a three dollar fifty cent difference.

My advice on Adsense revenue sharing? Stick with your own blog.

Either way, if you have enough high quality, great photos, this is definitely something you should check out. Even if they aren't the best photos in the world, anyone with a digital camera can earn off of sites like this.

Videos

You can upload your videos to a site like Revver, and get paid through Pay-Pal based on the amount of views your videos get. Awesome site for someone with a ton of original content that you think would become popular. Metacafe offers a similar program that pays be cheque instead, but the admittance to this program is a lot harder than Revver's, though you can earn quite a bit of money on this site instead. Writing

You can join a ton of sites that will pay you for articles and opinions. Some sites will buy your entire article and give you a cut, others will pay you a portion of the ad revenue. You usually can get paid through check or Pay-Pal, and if you can write a good article on a whim, this is probably what you should be doing. Triond is a great example of this type of site, and the site that I prefer, but Bukisa, Associated Content, Squidoo and Constant Content are other sites that will pay you for your articles too.

How to Successfully Publish Your Content Online and Get Paid Through Triond

Triond, the online publishing network that pays you for media and content, is a lot more complicated than it first looks. True, the basics are easy to figure out. A well written article, on a popular subject that is heavily promoted will generate a good sum of money. However, there are a few things that you can do to generate more money and get more coverage for your articles and media.

Generally speaking, the articles that make the most money are the pieces on health or computers and internet subjects. This is only a general rule of thumb, however, and articles about other subjects can also make a lot of money. Creative writing and news are subjects that generally don’t bring in a lot of money. If you create a lot of content in these subjects, by all means publish it, but don’t expect to make a lot of money off of them. Articles that are shorter than 300 words generally don’t do as well as articles that are between 500 and 800 words. The longer the article, and the higher the quality of writing, the better. Some good advice is to always write articles in a rough draft first, and edit them before editing. Also, remember to tag as many relevant subjects in your article as possible, as this will allow more people to find your article.

The best type of content, the type that will get you the most money on Triond, is written articles. Photos, videos and audio do not perform nearly as well as a well written article. Also, the only content that can get on to the hot content list are articles. Photos earn roughly a cent per 25 views, while articles get around a cent for 8 views. Videos and audio pay even less, so don’t expect to earn a whole lot off of them unless they are extremely popular.

My last piece of advice is to always, always use pictures. Articles with pictures pay more than articles without, for some reason. Try to include them in between paragraphs, as they offer a break for reader and allow you to illustrate your points.
